Alice Kay Heine

Alice Kay Heine, 85, of Gorham, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Alice was born on August 15, 1940, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to the late Alvin John Behnken and Mildred (Gregory) Behnken. She was a devoted homemaker and a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob.

On June 20, 1959, Alice married the love of her life, Daniel Lee Heine, in Steeleville. Together they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on September 19, 2006.

She leaves behind her loving children: Melody Smith of Steeleville, Brian (Dana) Heine of Ava, Paul (Shari) Heine of Gorham, Kelly (Laurie) Heine of Ava, and Ginger (Bobby) Webb of Du Quoin. She was the proud grandmother of John (Jessica) Heine, Brooke (Matthew) Howard, Steven (Heather Lavell) Smith II, Austin (Kelly) Heine, Hunter (Mikayla) Heine, Allison Heine, and Paul Dale Heine Jr. Alice was also blessed with great-grandchildren Steven Smith III, Kase Heine, Kynlee Heine, and Remmi Jo Howard, as well as step-grandchildren Brendon Webb and Bella Webb.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Alice was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Michael Imhoff.

Alice found joy in many hobbies throughout her life, but her greatest passion was gardening. Nearly every corner of her yard was filled with beautiful flowers and rose bushes that she lovingly planted and cared for. She was happiest when she was outside tending to her gardens, often accompanied by her beloved dogs. She also enjoyed sewing, collecting dolls, and decorating her home for Christmas. Her holiday displays became legendary among family and friends, who often joked that NASA could see her Christmas lights from space.

Alice will be remembered for her infectious smile, gentle spirit, and kind heart. She touched the lives of many with her warmth and love, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
