Obituary

Alice Stewart Snyder, 85, of Coulterville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Alice was born in Louisville, Kentucky, to James Stewart and Frances (Stewart) Filburn, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Linda Perini of Florida.

Alice was a devoted and loving mother to her four children, William Anthony, Paul Christian, Alicia Marie, and Allegra Kathleen, all of whom survive her. She was also deeply adored by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom felt fortunate to have experienced her love and affection.

Throughout her adult life, Alice dedicated herself to helping others through her work with PAVE, where she played a meaningful role in expanding domestic violence services and increasing accessibility to support for individuals affected by domestic violence in all its forms. Her compassion and commitment to this work touched many lives and will remain an important part of her legacy.

Outside of her work, Alice enjoyed a variety of interests, including reading, politics, television, and movies. She also had a special place in her heart for the many beloved pets who shared her life. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family.

Alice will be fondly and lovingly remembered for her many acts of kindness and compassion, as well as her sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor. She once joked that the inscription on her headstone should read, “She stayed ’til the end.”

And she did.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem, Illinois, on November 25, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Alice leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, service, and laughter. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ministry of Comfort was lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
