Anthony T. Galloway

December 8, 1989 — June 1, 2024

Carbondale

Born Anthony Tremell Galloway, on December 8, 1989 at Community Hospital in Long Beach, California to his mother, Yolanda Letitia Flournoy.

Anthony attended Kettering Elementary School, Hill Classical Middle School, Polytechnic High school and Long Beach City College.

He participated in the study and teachings of African Culture through the art of drum and dance under the tutelage of Raymond “Yaya” Quarles, Dadisi Sanyika, John Beatty, Olefemi Viltz and The African Cultural Study Group of Long Beach. Anthony was part of Dembrebrah West African Drum and Dance Ensemble which educated students within both the Long Beach Unified School District and Los Angeles Unified School District. Throughout his youth Anthony participated in a vast array of educational and cultural performances across Southern California which led him to platforms such as Long Beach Charter Cable, The Aquarium of the Pacific and The Ford Amphitheater.

Anthony was always outgoing and had a heart of gold. He loved people and was always making friends. He loved to make people laugh and he had a smile that would light up a room. He loved being playful and acting silly and goofy. He was always the life of the party and whenever he was around, he made sure that people enjoyed themselves.  When he felt the need he spoke his mind, and he would do so in love. Always speaking in truth as he saw it. Whether you liked it or not, but always with the best intentions.

He loved children and had a strong fondness for animals. He loved his family enormously and wanted his children to have a bright future. Being a single dad wasn’t easy, but he never gave up. And along the way he acknowledged his appreciation for the women that do it every day.

Anthony was blessed to be a father figure to three bonus children and two birth children all gifted from God, Jamarion Dennie (Mari), DraeZhaun Dennie (Drae), Ashaundrea Huff (Nunu), Anthony Tremell Galloway Jr. (Juice) and Ayden Tristan Galloway. He also leaves behind two younger sisters, Danielle Latrice Galloway and Cheyenne Jenice Galloway; two nieces Aniya, and Aleyna and a nephew Adonis; mother; Yolanda Letitia Flournoy, also known as “Tabia”; and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins across the states of California, Louisiana and Texas.

Those that preceded Anthony in death are great grandparents, Maggie and Isaac Barnarby; great grandmother, Dessie B. Flournoy, grandmother, Cheryle Hodge, grandfather, Eugene Flournoy.

Anthony will be greatly missed but never forgotten. As he joins the ancestors, we remember Sankofa.

“Se wo were fi na wosan kofa a yenkyiri”. Meaning, “It is not taboo to go back for what you forgot (or left behind)”.

We will always go back for those we love for love has no boundaries. Neither in this life or the next. Ase’ and Amen.
