Born on September 27, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, Bernie was the beloved daughter of the late John Wozniak and Lila Mary Gough. She grew up in Chicago, carrying with her a strong work ethic, a resilient spirit, and a profound love for her family.
Bernie was a devoted mother to her four children, who were her pride and joy: Joseph Louis Serapin III of Carbondale, Illinois; Steven Michael Serapin of Houston, Texas; Karen Anne Serapin-Lewis of Carbondale, Illinois; and Barbara Elizabeth Serapin-Toliver of Carbondale, Illinois. Known as a loving grandmother, she adored her four grandchildren—Anthony Lewis Jr., Nathan Ghar Williams, Jerome Webb Jr., and Marcus Covington—each of whom she cherished deeply.
Throughout her life, Bernie was known for her generous heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering commitment to her family and friends. Her kindness and compassion touched everyone she met, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Bernie was preceded in death by several loved ones who welcomed her with open arms.
A memorial service will be held in her honor, at a later date, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life, share memories, and say their final goodbyes.
She will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
Final arrangements lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
