Betty Lou Roberts, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, at Three Springs Lodge in Chester, Illinois. She was born on September 16, 1935, in Houston, Missouri, to Bryan and Hazel Weaver.
Betty grew up in the bootheel of Missouri, where she spent her childhood on family farms. Later in life, she pursued higher education and proudly earned an Associate of Science degree in Accounting from John A. Logan College. Her dedication and sharp mind led her to a career as a comptroller for Polk County, Florida.
A woman of many talents and interests, Betty found joy in sewing, needlepoint, and crocheting. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and staying well-informed on world events, national affairs, and local news. Deeply engaged in her community, she was an active member of the Eagles organization.
On April 6, 1959, she married the love of her life, Charles Roberts. Betty’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was happiest when hosting backyard barbecues, surrounded by friends, neighbors, and those she loved most.
Betty is lovingly remembered by her son, Judson Cowley; her daughters, Susan Rodewald, Debbie Morris, Sharon Roberts, and JoAnn Freeman; and her grandchildren: Richard Braloski, Tresa Roberts, Michelle Thompson, Renee Rodewald, Anne (Josh) Pierce, Matthew (Jessica) Rodewald, Taylor Freeman, Treavor (Marley) Freeman, and B.J. Morris. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, along with David Phelps, sister-in-law Donna Clifton, nieces Melany Kramer and Tina Lane, and many others who will forever hold her in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bryan and Hazel Weaver; her beloved husband, Charles Roberts; brothers Gene Weaver and William Clifton; sister Lucille McAlister; daughter Gloria Braloski; son-in-law David Rodewald; and granddaughter Kimmie Mills.
Betty was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Ministry of comfort was lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
