Billy Dewayne Hopson

January 17, 1979 — June 16, 2025

Thompsonville

Billy Dewayne Hopson was born on January 17, 1979, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Linda D. Olsen and Billy Wayne Hopson. He passed away on June 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and hard work.

Billy was a devoted husband, a proud and loving father, and a true friend to many. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sami, and their five children: Bailey K., Kassidy M., Billy K., Logan T., and Dillon. Billy’s joy was his family, and his heart was full with the recent news that he and Sami were expecting another child — a blessing he was thrilled to receive.

Known for his helpful spirit and big heart, Billy had a passion for fixing things, camping, and mowing — anything that allowed him to be outdoors and lend a hand. He found great joy in his work at Mr. D’s in Benton, where he was a valued team member. Whether as a mechanic or simply a neighbor willing to help, Billy was always there when someone needed him.

Billy treasured his lifelong friendships, especially with Craig Bryan, a friend of over 30 years, and Matia Tarrence, with whom he shared a 15-year bond.

He is survived by his brother, Michael, and his four sisters, Sam, Suni, DeeDee, and Shanna. Billy shared a special connection with each of them. He was preceded in death by both of his mothers, Linda D. Olsen and Kathy Hopson, whom he loved dearly.

Billy's kindness, strength, and unwavering love for his family and friends will forever be remembered. He was the best kind of person — a true family man, a loyal friend, and someone who made the world brighter just by being in it.

Ministry of Comfort was Entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
