Charles “Mark” Schmidt, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Mark was born on October 15, 1952, in Oakland City, Indiana, the son of Charles E. Schmidt and Mynette J. Nichols. He married Angie Cochran Monteith in 1996, and together they shared many years of love and companionship.

Mark worked for many years in the coal mines in Percy, Illinois. Outside of work, he especially enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his buddies—something that brought him great joy and lasting friendships.

He is survived by his loving wife, Angie Schmidt; his sister, Marsha Smith; daughters Keisha (Duane) George of Central City, Kentucky, and Stephanie (Sean) Goff of Texas; grandchildren Braxton (Bailey) Schmidt, Montana Drake, Ethan Barnes, and Cole Barnes; great-grandchildren Ryker Penrod and Brewer Schmidt; brother-in-law Tim (Melina) Cochran; mother-in-law Becky McIntosh; and several nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rick Schmidt.

A family-hosted Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 17, at 1:00 p.m. at Harbor Church – Lake of Egypt, located at 12743 Sarilda Lane, Marion, Illinois, with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating.

The family gratefully requests that memorial contributions be made to Harbor Church – Lake of Egypt.

Ministry of Comfort lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
