Christopher Dale Long, 62, of Carbondale, Il passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026. Christopher had a lifelong love of horses that brought him great joy. He especially treasured the time he spent working at the Saddle Barn in Brown County State Park. The horses were much more than animals to him—they were trusted companions and a source of peace and happiness. Whether caring for them, riding the trails, or simply spending time in the barn, Christopher felt most at home among the horses he loved so dearly. Those who knew him best understood that his connection with horses was one of the defining passions of his life.
He is survived by his mother, Suzy Bremmer; his daughter, Kristin Lavere of Brown County, Indiana; his brothers, Chad Long of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Wade Long of Charlotte, North Carolina; his grandkids Willow and Isaiah Lavere.
Christopher will be remembered for his caring heart, his love of nature and animals.
Honoring Christopher's wishes he will be cremated.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Christopher's life at a remembrance luncheon on July 11, 2026, in Brown County, Indiana. The location and time will be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a horse rescue organization in Christopher's memory. Donations made to help care for and rehabilitate horses in need would be a fitting tribute to a man whose love for horses was lifelong and profound.
Though Christopher's journey has ended, the love he shared and the memories he created will remain forever with those who knew him.
Ministry of comfort has been entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
