Clinton Eugene Wooley passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
Clinton was born on January 24, 1963, in Carbondale, Illinois, to Marlee and Francis (Lewis) Wooley. He was educated in the Carbondale school system and graduated from Carbondale Community High School with the Class of 1980. During his high school years, Clinton was active in athletics, playing both football and basketball.
Throughout his life, Clinton held various jobs, but he was best known for his work with Pool Co., where he spent many summers working alongside his brother-in-law, Kenneth Quinn. This job was one he truly enjoyed and excelled at. Clinton also worked at Saint Louis University Hospital and Ruby Tuesday during his time living in St. Louis, where he relocated to provide support and care for his son’s special needs.
Clinton’s greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved son, Clinton Jr., and his longtime companion, Tina Goble. He was a devoted father and a constant presence in his son's life. Clinton also cherished family gatherings, where he was known for wrestling with his nephews, playfully “bossing” his nieces around, and embracing his self-appointed title as the “family bully” with affection and humor.
Clinton leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Clinton Wayne Wooley (“Junior”); Junior’s mother and Clinton’s devoted companion, Tina Goble; his sisters: Barbara DeWalt, Norma Wooley, Penny Lewis, Patricia Wooley, and Tammy Wooley, all of Carbondale; brothers: Wendell (Cheryl) Wooley of Marion, and Kenneth (Susan) Wooley; sisters-in-law: Deborah Wooley and Gwendolyn Wooley; brother-in-law: Kenneth Quinn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. He also had three special lifelong friends, Sterling Jefro, Billy Williams and Chester Albritton.
Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, Marlee and Francis Wooley; three sons; four brothers: Marlee Jr., Danny, Larry, and Jerome Wooley; three sisters: Mary Alice Wooley, JoAnn Cole, and Deborah Quinn; niece Cynthia Cole-Cobb; and nephew Omar Blythe.
Clinton will be remembered for his loyalty, his humor, and the unwavering love he had for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
