Debra Sue Brinker March 1, 1954 – September 12, 2025

Debra Sue Brinker, 71, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 1, 1954, in East Chicago, Indiana, Debra was the daughter of the late Ben and Blanche (Meade) Summers. She was preceded in death by her parents and all nine of her siblings.

In June of 1979, Debra married the love of her life, Paul W. Brinker, in Murphysboro, where they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. Together, they raised four children: Jeremy B. (Kamden) Summers, Tiffany A. Brinker, Melisa J. Brinker, and Jacob R.S. Brinker. Debra was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren Sedric Summers, Achilles Summers, Anniston Brinker, Saint Hanson, Olivia Brookins, Victoria Brinker, Candice Swope, Kelton Brinker and three great-grandchildren, Adrian B. Summers, De’MarQuay M. Brinker-Brown and Elijah W. Kenner all of whom brought immense joy to her life.

Debra dedicated over 25 years to caring for and nurturing children through her home daycare. She was known for her patience, warmth, and genuine love for every child who came through her doors.

A devoted member of Christ Community Church in Murphysboro, Debra faithfully served as an usher and was cherished by her church family. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she lived her life with grace, generosity, and compassion.

Debra was an avid reader who always had a book close at hand. She also found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life—especially spending time in her swimming pool, where she felt most at ease.

Debra’s kindness, unwavering faith, and nurturing spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

She always had a sheltered dog along with her beautiful fish tanks and a bearded dragon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis Care or Wright-Way Rescue Shelter both in Murphysboro, IL, or any other local facility caring for rescued animals.
