Edward “Ed” Dean Tunison passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024, at his home in the comfort and loving care of his wife Mary Ann and his son Greg.
Ed was born and raised in San Diego, California. Ed and Mary Ann moved to Carterville, IL in 2019 to be closer to his son and grandchildren. He immediately made numerous close friends and began participating in the local pool leagues.
He participated and enjoyed the local “car culture” starting in the 1950’s. Ed shared his love of the sea by providing food and recreation to countless families as a professional fisherman. Ed’s passion for helping others in their time of need along with sharing hope and encouragement started in AA years ago and continued throughout his life. No matter what his hobby was at the time, he did it with intensity and to the best of his ability. He shined and succeeded in all endeavors including bowling, fishing, golf and billiards. To count and list the number of trophies, awards, plaques, prizes and patches he accumulated over the years would be a monumental task.
He honorably and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict.
Ed is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Ann; son Gregory (Monique); grandchildren Aidan, Quinn and Lily. He also leaves behind Michael Weeks, Connie and Bruce Krtek, Hank and Penny Bullock, Bob, Teresa, Patti and Deborah McEntee, Michell Alcaraz, Aunt Beverly and extended family Cheryl Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents along with an aunt and uncle.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Edward “Ed” Tunison memory, contributions can be made to: Greg Tunison, 1508 South Division St., Carterville, IL 62918 for a friend of Ed.
Professional Services were entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
