Elizabeth A. Welch

October 12, 1953 — April 28, 2025

Murphysboro

Elizabeth A. Welch, affectionately known as "Tee," was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at her home.

Born in Murphysboro, Illinois, to the late Ulysses and Luella (Oliver) Thomas, Elizabeth graduated from Murphysboro Township High School. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang joyfully in the choir and generously offered her time and talents wherever they were needed.

Elizabeth found great joy in spending time with her family. She loved a spirited game of dominoes or Scrabble, singing, and line dancing. A lover of books, she often picked up a good read whenever she found the time. She also cherished listening to her gospel music, which brought her peace and inspiration.

She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Pamela Gilmore and Samantha Welch; her son, Micha (Tameka) Welch; her beloved grandchildren: Theo, Sharece, Steven, Jameka, Janye, Micha, Malachi, Tiaunna, Micha, Justin, and Jermel; and her precious great-grandchildren:Jalen, Natalia, Seriya, and Ralph King, Kaylani, Micha, Kreed, Camille, Angelo, Anastasia, Jewel, Juno, Jade, Star, Sage, and Kaleo. She is also survived by her loving mother, Luella Hughes; eight brothers: John “Rick,” Ivan, Mark, Nathaniel, David, Michael, Leland, and Martin Sherrill; three sisters: Joyce Sherrill Stephenson, Mary Moore, and Kathy Sherrill; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father, and two brothers, Cecil and George Sherrill; one great grandchild, Amar.

Elizabeth's loving spirit, joyful laughter, and generous heart will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
