Evelyn Hudson, age 92, of Carbondale, Illinois, peacefully departed this life on August 19, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on June 16, 1933, in Charleston, Missouri, to Bura Lee and Cherrie Ann Robinson. Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age at First Missionary Baptist Church in Mound City, Illinois. She attended LoveJoy School in Mound City.
Evelyn worked various jobs throughout her life, but her most cherished and important role was being a devoted mother to her children. In 1949, she was united in marriage to Thomas (Shaw) Hudson Jr., and together they welcomed 10 beautiful children.
Evelyn had a love for family and friends that was unmatched. Known affectionately in the family as one-half of the “Snoop Sisters,” she and her sister/best friend Josephine (Tee) Cole always seemed to have the 411 on the entire town—without ever leaving the house.
In her later years, Evelyn made her home in Carbondale, Illinois, where she became a faithful member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending church, cooking big Sunday dinners, listening to gospel music, and watching her favorite shows—The Price is Right and The Young and the Restless.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bura Lee and Cherrie Ann Robinson; her husband of over 30 years, Thomas (Shaw) Hudson Jr.; three children, Lawanda Hudson, Roderick Hudson, and Barbara Hudson; eight siblings, Nathaniel Hamilton, Bura Lee Robinson Jr., Josephine (Tee) Cole, O’Dell Robinson, Joe Robinson, Eloise Robinson, and Francis Seay; one granddaughter, Lakyrra Harvey; and one great-great-granddaughter, Blessing Mi’Amora Hudson.
She leaves to cherish her memory seven children: Billy Hudson of St. Mary, MO; Thomas (Janet) Hudson III of Suffolk, VA; Michael Hudson of Hampton, VA; Karen Hudson (Barry Posey) of Murphysboro, IL; Kevin Hudson, Darryl Hudson, and Patronia Hudson, all of Carbondale, IL; and one sister, Mildred Wilkerson of Sacramento, CA. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Evelyn’s legacy of faith, love, and family will live on through all who knew and loved her.
