Frank Marsh, affectionately known as “Junk Yard Dog,” passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 85.
He was born on October 9, 1939, in Rose Hill, Mississippi, to the late Augie Marsh and Idell (Smith) Marsh. Frank left Mississippi at the age of 12 and spent most of his life in Wisconsin before moving to Illinois in 2018 to be closer to his children and for health reasons.
Frank was a hard worker and wore many hats throughout his life. He worked for the City of Racine, at Case, bartended at Mr. Kool’s and The Blue Room, and ran Junkyard’s Alley Catfish.
He will be remembered as a man who loved life, family, and community. For over 30 years, Frank and his brother Eddie “Jack” Marsh faithfully organized the Marsh Family & Friends Reunion, bringing loved ones together across generations. He had a passion for fishing, horse racing, and was a die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Milwaukee Bucks
Survivors include: His children, Jacqueline Marsh of Freeman Spur, IL; Valencia (Gary) Miller of Carbondale, IL; David Marsh; Laurie Marsh of Freeman Spur, IL; Marsha Miner of Freeman Spur, IL; Christa Williams of Murphysboro, IL; Solomon (Vanessa) Emmanuel of Chicago, IL; and Janikka Marsh of Milwaukee, WI. He also leaves behind countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and special loved ones including Brian “Brittle” Phillips, Geraldine “Cupcake” Penn, Mr. Jessie, Bootsie, and Bill.
He was preceded in death by: His parents, Augie and Idell Marsh; his brothers Eddie (Jack), Joseph, Bentley, and Lonnie Marsh; his sisters Ida Mae (Jacob) Lott, Mattie (Frank) Jones, Elsie (William) Roberson, and Fareeda Dadzie; his son Alphonzo Spencer; grandson Catreal Brown; and special friend Phyllis Marsh.
Frank’s big heart, lively spirit, and devotion to his family and friends will be deeply missed. His legacy of love and laughter lives on in everyone who knew him.
