Fred S. Stroud

Fred Stroud, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on May 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 29, 1947, in Murphysboro, Illinois to the late Fred and Vernita Stroud. Fred spent his early years throughout southern Illinois before eventually settling in Carterville.

He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sandra Bastien, and together they shared sixty wonderful years of marriage filled with love, dedication, family and a little give and take.

Fred worked as a contractor and took great pride in roofing and remodeling homes. He always held a dream of building a new home. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and, above all, cherished the time he spent with his family—especially his grand and great-great grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Stroud; two sons, Michael Stroud and Stephen Stroud; three daughters, Rebecca Reams (Michael), Angela Stroud, and Krista Overmeyer; eight grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters, Justice and Auri Stroud, whom he and his wife were raising. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry, Terry, and Tim Stroud (Lavina); sisters, Donna Guetersloh (Larry) and Anita Hamilton (Marvin); sister-in-law, Carolyn Clover (Cecil); along with many extended family members and dear friends, all of whom will cherish his memory.

Ministry of comfort was lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
