Iyahmena Sophia Seaton, originally named at birth, Iyahmena Shabaka Reed departed from this life to the next on April 7, 2023 at the age of 41.
She was born on June 27, 1981 to the late Jamaiel Shabaka Reed and Valarie Mosley. Iyahmena was born at home, and delivered by her grandmother Mildred Mosley in Oakland, California.
At the age of 12, Iyahmena exhibited modeling and dance abilities. With the help of her loving Aunt Susanna Wilcox, a pageant coordinator, she entered and won the Jr. Teen Miss Southern California pageant and ball.
Iyahmena attended Carbondale Community High School and later attended Everest College where she graduated and obtained a certificate as a Medical Assistant.
She had a passion for writing poetry and love songs. She loved to dance Salsa and aside from her father, her favorite musical artists were Marc Anthony and Selena.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Alexander Seaton; her children, Fernando Barron, Mia Barron, Maya Barron, Malia Reed, Mila Seaton, Mariana Seaton, and Mary Seaton; grandchildren, Sekauri and Sekani Barron; her brothers, Kwasi Reed, Tafari Bayne, Wose Shabaka, Ageyi Allamellon, Derrick Underwood, Kwame Shabaka, and Selassie Shabaka; her sisters, Nia Reed- League, Sefra Shabaka Reed, Nayosati Shabaka, Ewa Shabaka Reed, Akua Shabaka, and Abenah Shabaka; A special cousin, Roszena and Imma, who she grew up with like sisters. She was a lifelong friend and neighbor to many.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jamaiel Shabaka Reed, Grandfather Woodrow Reed, Grandmother Ada Victoria Reed, Grandmother Cleola Brown, and Edward Lee Mosley.
Final Arrangements have been Entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services
