James Michael Bullard, lovingly known as “Buschman,” passed away peacefully at his home in Murphysboro, Illinois, on June 22, 2025, at the age of 69.
Born on August 18, 1955, to James Harold Bullard and Shelba Cox Bullard, James proudly served his country as a cryptographic repairman in the United States Army from 1972 to 1977. His service took him to Japan, Korea, and Thailand as part of the Southeast Asian mission. During his military career, he earned his high school diploma from St. Louis High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.
James had a deep passion for cooking, especially barbecuing. He was part of a BBQ team that proudly placed third at the prestigious Memphis in May BBQ Festival. When he wasn't tending the grill, James enjoyed fishing, classic rock and country music, and spending cherished time with his family—especially his grandchildren. Though he was known for being uniquely stubborn, it was that very trait that made him unforgettable. To his family, he was a hero.
A proud patriot, James was deeply supportive of veterans' causes and organizations. His faith was also a guiding light in his life, and one of his favorite Bible verses was 2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, Now there is a store for me the crown of righteousness”.
James is lovingly remembered by his devoted partner, Kellie Eubanks; his brothers Ricky (Bonnie), Mark (Onna), and Bruce (Terri) Bullard; and his nine children: Lisa Pulatov (Vince Green), Luke Bullard (Elizabeth), Marlena McGlauchlen, Kaitlyn Johnson (Chris), Kieattisak Duanganont (Su), Jonathan Tompkins (Diana Castro), Kimberlyn Arena (Randy), and Jeffery Thompson (Ryan Eaton).
He also leaves behind 17 beloved grandchildren: Matthew Hall, Franklin and Diamond Duanganont, Angel Bullard, Lawrence Jones, Madison Bullard, Jonny Ayling, Nathan Bullard, Abigail Arena, Arlin Schartz, Jon Jacob Bullard Jr., Liliana Arena, Gavin Schartz, Donavan Johnson, Mauricia Johnson, Emma Tompkins, and Videl Johnson.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Shelba Bullard; his grandparents, Veda and Marvin Rising; his son, Jon Jacob Bullard; and a great-grandson, Roman Griffin.
James will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
Ministry of Comfort was lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
