James P. Cavender, 89, of Anna, Illinois, passed away on May 21, 2025, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.
Born on November 16, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of the late Samuel and Pauline (Abernathy) Cavender. James enlisted in the United States Army on September 8, 1954, and served honorably as a paratrooper until his discharge on August 20, 1957. Following his military service, he worked as a master bricklayer and retired from Wellsville Fire Brick Company.
In his retirement, James found joy in cooking, sewing, thrift shopping, and making regular trips to the casino. He was known for his independent spirit and his love for the simple pleasures in life.
James is survived by his two sons, James Cavender Jr. and Jay Cavender; his stepdaughter, Julie Green; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Billy Joe Cavender, and his life partner, Dorothy Petersen.
In accordance with his wishes, James will be cremated and no services will be held at this time.
