James “Jimmy” Dean Curtis, 63, passed away on February 2, 2026 in Carbondale, illinois.

Jimmy, as he was known to friends and family, was born on September 14, 1962, in Marion, Illinois. He lived most of his life in Carbondale, where he and his siblings were raised. He attended and graduated from Carbondale Community High School.

Jimmy was a quiet, good-natured man who was always friendly and kind. He enjoyed spending time with friends and watching movies. He was also a lifelong fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Bessie Dean (1897–1998); his mother, Bertha Celine Martin (1927–1995); his father, William Dean Curtis (1922–2018); and one sister, Donna Marie Curtis (1955–2004).

Surviving Jimmy are his brother, William Martin Curtis of Nathrop, Colorado; his sister, Mary Grace Curtis of Los Fresnos, Texas; and his niece, Amy Caitlyn Curtis of Austin, Texas.

Jimmy will be cremated and later interred in Blytheville, Arkansas, alongside his mother and sister in a Catholic ceremony. There will be no public viewing or service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Jimmy’s name to the Carbondale Community High School Education Foundation.

Rest in peace, baby brother. Death is the last chapter in time, but the first chapter in eternity.

Ministry of Comfort was lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
