James Lee Messer, age 60, of Elkville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Born on January 30, 1964, in Carbondale, Illinois, James was the beloved son of the late Curtis Lee and Helen Faye (Crab) Messer.
James dedicated his life to construction and home repair, working as a self-employed contractor known for his craftsmanship and reliability. Outside of work, he was an avid fan of NASCAR and enjoyed watching Mark Martin win many races. James had a passion for the great outdoors. He found joy in hunting and fishing and was equally enthusiastic about 1980s rock and roll music, which provided the soundtrack to many cherished memories.
James is survived by his two brothers, Robert Messer of Elkville, Illinois, and Curtis Messer of Jacksonville, Florida; his stepmother, Alice Messer; and his nephew, Christopher Messer, both of Elkville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Lee and Helen Faye Messer.
To celebrate James' life, a walk-through celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Southern Cremation and Burial Services, located at 1017 N. 14th Street, Murphysboro, Illinois.
James will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
Final arrangements were lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
