Jeane "Cricket" Burns, 75, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, returned to the stars on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at her home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Born on April 7, 1949, to the late Norman Rymer and Betty Benz, Jeane was a vibrant and loving woman whose spirit touched many lives.
Jeane married Milton Burns on November 16, 1990, and was lovingly cared for by him until she passed. Together, they shared a bond that was unbreakable.
Throughout her life, Jeane worked at many restaurants as a waitress, but her most cherished role was as a teacher’s aide at Dr. Andy Hall. She poured love and care into every child she encountered, with a special place in her heart for those who needed a little extra attention.
Known for her boundless energy, Jeane was a fun-loving mother who made cherished memories for her children. From saying "yes" to a last-minute slumber party to making homemade fries at midnight, she was always ready to make life a little more magical. Dancing around the living room was one of her favorite pastimes, and she was always a good listener, never judging but offering love and support. She was a true giver, even when she had little to give, and made everyone feel special and seen.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at 43, Jeane bravely fought the effects of the illness over the years. Though Parkinson's took many things from her, it never stole her love of life, her sense of humor, or her inner sparkle. Jeane was a shining example of strength and resilience.
Jeane is survived by her loving husband, Milton Burns; her children, Lora Batson of Mt. Vernon, IL, Matthew Bay of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Amber Heaton and her husband, Josh, of Bonnie, IL; her grandchildren, Jeremy Batson and Katie of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Stephanie Davis and Jason of Carlyle, IL; her great-grandchildren, Riley & Lincoln Davis, and Lilly Batson; her sisters, Lois Rymer and Louise Burton; her brother, Robert Benz; caregiver and friend Jennifer Cates; and her loyal pup, Albert.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Bill Rymer and Donnie Tanner; and her beloved canine companions, Bubbie, Gracie, and Millie.
A visitation and celebration of life will be scheduled at a later time.
