It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Cameron, 87, of Murphysboro, Illinois, who departed this life peacefully on January 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Louis was born on February 12, 1938, in Decatur, Illinois, to Lenora and Roger Cameron. He grew up alongside his two brothers, John and Clay, sharing a love for the outdoors and the kind of youthful mischief boys often find. From an early age, Louis was ambitious and hardworking. He proudly served in the United States Navy for four years and went on to hold many occupations throughout his life, including working in construction, as a dairyman, training and selling horses, and eventually serving as a bus driver for individuals with disabilities in Idaho.
Louis was known for his warm laugh, his green thumb, and his endless generosity. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and found great peace in the outdoors he loved so much.
He is survived by his children: Louis (Kathi) Cameron, Lisa (Austin) Johnson, Brenda (Rick) Johnson, Scott Cameron, Cody (Kaitlyn) Cameron, and Dakota Cameron; along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, John and Clay.
A celebration of Louis’ life will be held at a later date in Murphysboro, Illinois.
His kindness, patience, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by many.
Ministry of comfort was lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
