Nathaniel Wayne Crowell

February 12, 2004 — March 28, 2025

Carbondale

Nathaniel “Nate” Wayne Crowell, age 21, was born on February 12, 2004, in Marion, Illinois, to Mary Jane Crowell and Dwight Vaughn. He departed this life on March 28, 2025.

Nate was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne and Carolyn Crowell; his brother, Bryson Christopher Anderson; and a special cousin, James Vaughn.

Nate began his education at Jonesboro Elementary School before moving to Carbondale, Illinois, where he attended Carbondale Community High School, graduating in 2022. After high school, he worked at Schnucks Grocery Store and later found employment as a driver with a logistics company.

Nate had a smile that could light up any room. He enjoyed playing video games and adored his two dogs, Cooper and Ziggy. To all who knew him, Nate was a gentle giant—a quiet soul with a kind and loving heart. His warmth and presence left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his parents, Dwight Vaughn and Mary Jane Crowell, both of Carbondale, IL; his grandmother, Nancy Maxwell (Poppa Eric); three uncles, Bryan Crowell of O’Fallon, MO, Dwain Vaughn of Carbondale, IL, and Milton Anderson (Skyler) of Cape Girardeau, MO; and one aunt, Janae Maxwell of Carbondale, IL.

Nate is also survived by five brothers and four sisters: Kassady Crowell of Carbondale, IL, Victoria Vaughn and Isaiah Vaughn of Marion, IL, Ikiah Vaughn and Donavan Higgins of Cape Girardeau, MO, Davontae Webb and Davion Webb of Beckley, West Virginia, Gracie Murphy of Kevil, KY, and Wyatt Vaughn of Jonesboro, IL.

He is lovingly remembered by his nephew, Lamont Dale-Ray Williams; two special friends, Sammy Money and Cody Mitchell; one special cousin Shirley Shelton of Anna IL. and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Nate will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his big heart, quiet strength, and the love he gave so freely.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Final Arrangements were Lovingly Entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
