Richard Allen Spurgeon, 72, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
He was born September 27, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Virgil “Jake” and Betty (Wills) Spurgeon.
Richard worked as a Commercial Truck Driver for more than 50 years. He was deeply dedicated to his work and took great pride in his career.
Richard was known for his sense of humor and for being THE BEST storyteller. His absence will leave us with a void that can never be filled and his legacy will forever be etched in our hearts.
He is survived by his children, Kari (Justin) Pursley, Shane (Damaris) Spurgeon, and Levi (Abbi) Spurgeon; grandchildren, Josselyn, Jace, Cash, Cain, Anthony “Cash,” Saylor, and Milo; one brother, Tim Spurgeon; two sisters, Lisa Stein and Beverly Spurgeon; along with many nieces and nephews who he loved tremendously, and many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved son, Tony Spurgeon; his brother, Kenny Spurgeon; and his sister, Carolyn Spurgeon.
