Robin Victor O'Neal

May 7, 1962 — January 13, 2025

Dallas, GA

Robin Victor O’Neal, 62, departed this life on Monday, January 13, 2025. He was born on May 7, 1962, to Booker and Erie O’Neal.

Robin was raised in Carbondale, Illinois, where he attended grade school and graduated from Carbondale Community High School. At a young age, he was baptized and became an active member of Olivet Freewill Baptist Church, where he attended Sunday school, participated in church activities, and sang in the choir. In his family, church was a cherished tradition.

Robin had a deep passion for music and a talent for singing, particularly ballads. He moved to Plainfield, New Jersey, to pursue his musical aspirations and later performed in The Gospel of the Harlem Renaissance in New York City in 2006, a production that celebrated the rich history of Harlem. He was immensely proud of this milestone in his musical career.

Robin eventually settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where he built a successful career in construction. As a dedicated union carpenter, he spent over 30 years in the drywall industry before transitioning to PCI Scaffolding Concepts, where he worked for 23 years as a foreman, overseeing projects nationwide. His expertise and certifications granted him opportunities to work across the United States, including in Hawaii, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. He continued his work until his well-earned retirement in August 2024.

Robin will be remembered for his warm smile, his incredible voice, and the joy he brought to those around him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Booker O’Neal Jr.; his grandmother, Irene Jordan, who lived to be 102; and his nephew, Rayfeale R. Hawthorne.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Shelanda O’Neal, and stepson, Mario of Dallas, Georgia; his mother, Erie O’Neal of Carbondale, Illinois; and his siblings: Joan Anthony of Kingsland, Georgia; Anthony (Georgia) Hawthorne of Phoenix, Arizona; Lillian Thompson of Marion, Illinois; Gordon (Debbie) O’Neal of Carbondale, Illinois; Angela O’Neal of Bellwood, Illinois; Patricia Ollie of Murphysboro, Illinois; Ronald (Nancy) O’Neal of Evanston, Illinois; and Judy Sylvester of Decatur, Georgia. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him dearly.

Robin’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Final arrangements were lovingly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
