Wayne E. Aydt, age 59, of Johnston City, Illinois, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Illinois. He was born on December 8, 1966, in McLeansboro, Illinois, the son of Clarence William “Bill” and Bernice Aydt.

Wayne was a graduate of McLeansboro Township High School. He later attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the Missouri University of Science and Technology, where he earned his degrees.

Wayne was a thoughtful and caring man who found beauty in the simple things in life. He had a deep appreciation for nature and cherished the time he spent on his grandparents’ farm, a place he considered peaceful, like paradise. The memories made there held a special place in his heart and remained a source of comfort and happiness throughout his life.

Wayne enjoyed many interests, particularly those that connected him with nature and the world around him. He valued the time spent with family and friends, each of whom held a special place in his life. He gave a small part of himself to many people, and together, those relationships made him whole. His kindness, thoughtful spirit, and the love he shared will be remembered by all who knew him.

Wayne is survived by his loving mother, Bernice Aydt; his sisters, Anita (Doug) Koontz of Belleville, Janet (Pete) Witteried of Wildwood, Missouri, and Cynthia (Vince) Bowling of Herrin; his brother, Steven Aydt of Belleville; and his uncle, Jim Martin of Murphysboro.

He is also survived by his nephews, Matthew (Danielle) Bowling, Zachary Bowling, Anthony Bowling, Jeremy (Cara) Koontz, and Andrew Koontz; as well as two great-nieces and one great-nephew.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Clarence William “Bill” Aydt; his grandparents; his aunt, Elsie Martin; the love of his life, Becky; and his beloved cat, Neko.

A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the SIU Newman Center, located at 715 South Washington Street in Carbondale, Illinois.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, located at 1377 County Road 25 E in Enfield, Illinois. A funeral Mass will immediately follow. Interment of ashes will take place at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Cemetery in McLeansboro, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, Wayne’s family and friends are invited to celebrate his life by making a charitable contribution to one of his favorite charities or to a charity of their choice.
