William Lynn “Willie” Ticer, age 64, of Murphysboro, gained his wings and went home to God, our Heavenly Father, on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Willie was born on January 26, 1962, to Charles Edward Ticer and Kay Marie (Gale) Ticer of Gorham, Illinois. He attended and graduated from Gorham High School, where he was active in track and field. Willie loved running and swimming.

He especially enjoyed spending time outdoors and being surrounded by nature. Some of his favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, playing pool, and riding his Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail, lovingly named “Christine Carrie.”

Willie is survived by his loving wife, Tammy (Baiter) Ticer of Murphysboro; daughters, Cheryl (Jerry) Gass of West Frankfort, Michelle Ticer and her husband, James Petrone, and Katie (Eric) Wojtkiewicz of Brookfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Makayla Gerler, Sierra Aul, James Petrone Jr., Eric Jr., James Londyn, Lovelyn, and Lacelyn Wojtkiewicz; and great-grandson, Levi.

He is also survived by his brothers, Charles (Barb) Ticer, David (Connie) Ticer, and Russell (Christy) Ticer.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Kay Ticer; grandparents, Elmer and Martha Ticer and Dan and Viola Gale; and nephews, Stephen Ticer and Jeffrey Ticer.

Willie was raised in the Catholic faith and was a current member of Fairview Christian Church, where he was blessed with the loving church family of Pastor Andy Cunningham and fellow members.

Willie will be remembered for his love of family, the outdoors, nature, and the many simple joys that made life meaningful. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Willie’s life will be held at a later date and time.
